I've been using my Squeezebox Touch for 10 years now and I'm still blown away with what it can handle and the quality of the sound it delivers. For some months now though I've been experiencing lots of problems keeping it connected to other servers and players around the house. I'm adding fuller details below but the basic set up is:
Sometime back I found that various of the wonderful plugins (BBC iPlayer, BBCSounds, Spotty, Mixcloud) would not run (or run properly) on the Zen which is stuck on LMS 7.9.1--upgrading that would require either returning the box for a £75 installation of their proprietary InnuOS operating system (cost £75) or figuring out how to upgrade VortexBox beyond the current 2.3 version, which would put me into uncharted territory.
My work-around for a while has been to connect everything through the iMac and use the Zen as a remote library. But of late the Touch has been either reluctant or completely refuses to connect and/or stay connected to the mac. Wifi is always solid whenever I check and all players and controllers are on the same network. I dare say a look at the Touch's network logs would reveal something but as there is no web interface for that I'm completely flummoxed as to where to find it. And I'm not sure it would mean much to me in any case. Restarting everything sometimes fixes the problem, but only for a while.
I'd really appreciate some help in figuring out the problem(s) and the best way forward. I'm reasonably comfortable with tinkering under the hood in OSX, but I'm out of my depth in things like Perl, and command line stuff. That said, I may have introduced some kinks in the system over time, so wondering if it's time to tear everything down and start again. Either way, I'm already immensely grateful to all the folk who are keeping the Squeezebox platform rocking and rolling. And if my problems involve particular work and patience, I'd be happy to pitch in with some beer funding.
