Squeezebox 2 keeps stopping

I recently acquired a Squeezebox 2, I have two Touches and three RPs running quite happily for several years, but I really fancied the 'retro' look of the SB2 and wanted to connect it to a tube amplifier kit that I built over the Christmas Holidays. I purchased the unit from someone who had not used it for a year or so but assured me it had been running it on Wi-Fi without any apparent issues.

When I connected it up it played for a short time, 3 minutes or so that then stopped. When I tried to reconnect it, it went back to the initial network settings setup screen and it does this either on Wi-Fi or ethernet. I did some digging around here and on the web and tried all the suggestions I could find. I have used different power supplies, removed the Wi-Fi card (I only want to run it wired anyway) performed factory resets and given it a static ip address but all to no avail. The unit will play for a few minutes, there are occasional clicks or cracks (loss of data?) and then the unit will stop playing.

Any suggestions would be greatly apricated
