remotely change on-device settings

Hi,

I am looking for a way to remotely change on-device settings on my Radio, like minimal brightness or screenswitcher options.
I can connect via ssh and have located the settings files here: I can edit them, but the changes only get effective after a restart.
I found a way to also do it remotely, but this involves restarting the squeezeplay process:
Does anyone know a way to change settings remotely on a device like the radio without having to restart Squeezeplay and getting the startup chime?!
